Om arrangementet
This high-level discussion asks what democratic alliances must do to move from statements to strategy, from solidarity to sustained power, strengthening Ukraine’s defence, reinforcing societal resilience under conditions of total war, and ensuring that Russia faces real, irreversible consequences for the aggression it continues to wage.
Bringing together diplomacy, Ukrainian civil society, journalism, culture, and the Nordic defence industry, the panel connects accountability with action — from documenting war crimes, a Special Tribunal and full-scale reparations mechanisms, to expanded defence production, technological cooperation, deep strike sanctions and long-term security guarantees that are not symbolic, but binding and operational.
Can democracy survive when facts are twisted, alliances fracture, and authoritarian regimes exploit the cracks? How do we win a lasting, just peace?
The discussion will examine how governments, parliaments, municipalities, international partners, civil and the defence sector can work together as one democratic ecosystem supporting Ukraine’s resilience and long-term security.
The panel will address the strategic dimensions of this cooperation: sustained military and defence-industrial support, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, democratic resilience, accountability and the rule of law, reconstruction, local partnerships, and public diplomacy.
A particular focus will be placed on the role of EU, especially Nordic, Baltic cooperation in shaping a stronger European security architecture. Ukraine’s experience demonstrates that security is no longer defined solely by armed forces. It depends on resilient institutions, democratic societies, capable municipalities, strong international partnerships and a defence industry able to innovate and deliver at speed.
The participation of ambassadors and a defence-industry representative will bring together the political, diplomatic and practical dimensions of this challenge: how to turn political commitments into capabilities, partnerships and measurable outcomes.
Open constructive dialogue and close effective cooperation between national and local authorities, international actors, civil society, cultural institutions are essential to bring Ukraine's victory closer. United by democracy weeks - Norwegian Arendalsuka and Ukrainian Carpathian Sea Democracy Week we will discuss our commitment to #makeRussiaPay.
How to build alliances capable of sustaining Ukraine’s victory, strengthening European security and shaping a democratic Europe fit for the future.
